One of the most important aspects of coffee production for him is respecting the surrounding biodiversity.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is our third year working with Juan Jose and we are extremely proud to represent this coffee which is absolutely delicious with notes of orange, honey and chocolate.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cu\u003eThe Xinka indigenous community and Cafe Colis Resistencia\u003c\/u\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Xinka are an indigenous group from the Mataquescuintla region whose existence is not recognized by the Guatemalan government.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 2008, the opening of the Escobal Silver Mine was approved without the Xinka's permission, contrary to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The mine threatens the cleanliness of the land, water, and air in their territory.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 2003, the Xinka community formed the Cafe Colis Resistencia, a peaceful resistance movement that initially sought to gain recognition for their rights and now has the primary goal of blocking access to the mines.
